Where else to start exploring St. Petersburg, but with The Peter and Paul Fortress? It is the same age as our city, the day of its foundation is considered to be the day of foundation of St. Petersburg also. Protection of its impregnable fortifications, towering over the Neva river, allowed St. Petersburg to become the way we know it. Today the Fortress is listed as a part of the Museum of history of St. Petersburg. City managed to restore inside the Cathedral not only the original color, but also mural and related to the XVIII century painting (18 paintings above the windows), which for many decades were hidden under the dust, soot and layers of subsequent records. Also do not miss the chance to see restoration works in The Peter and Paul Cathedral, which significantly brought it closer to its original appearance.
